First Oil Wash of Max

This is my first oil wash of Maxie. Unfortunately Max passed away last year, but I'm going to do the best I can to create a nice memory. I remember him as a sweet playful dog despite his large size, and he definitely left us too soon.

Greetings From the Snow

Spending the holidays in the snow, and am actually getting more small paintings done here than at home. That's a good thing since I will soon be moving up here!

Head Study of Brian

My granddaughter wanted to give a small oil painting to a dear friend who lost her brother Brian several months ago. We searched through many photos posted on line on Facebook pages, and finally came up with this one of Brian in his football uniform on the field for a reference. I especially liked that he was bathed in sunlight, and tried to capture that in this little 6 x 8 oil. We later found out that this shot was a family favorite, so it was a good choice.

The In-Laws

My daughter's friend asked me to paint this 8 x 10 oil of her in-laws for a Christmas present. My reference photo was from their wedding, but I made requested changes to clothing color and cropped the image.

Feather Doodling

oil on linen 16 by 20

A few years ago I shot a photo of my granddaughter sitting on the beach by a lake in Saugatuck, Michigan. She was intent on doodling in the sand with a feather she found on the beach. I loved her pose and the play of the lights on her and the sand.

Soldier's Kiss

oil on linen 12 by 16
This was done for a young teacher who thought her father was about to be deployed to Iraq. She wanted this image of her parents for her mom to have while he was away. We were going to provide him with a photo of it to take with. Fortunately, it ended up that he didn't have to go.

Indian Pot

Oil on canvas board 6 by 6

I have some friends who regularly visit South America and during their last trip they brought back several pots, baskets and statues that they have kindly lent to me for still life painting. I plan to do small paintings of all of them. This is my first effort, with a few cherries thrown in.
